The North Country HealthCare Foundation’s mission is to provide philanthropic support to North Country HealthCare. The Foundation raises funds from individuals, private foundations and corporations to benefit or enhance and improve the services, programs and facilities of North Country HealthCare and to build an endowment to provide financial security for the future.

To accomplish its mission, the NCHC Foundation serves as a connector between the NCHC and the donors in the communities it serves. It strives to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization. Partnering with administration, staff, and the governing board, the Foundation works to ensure its goals and fundraising priorities are aligned with those of North Country Healthcare.

A culture of philanthropy is a partnership between fund development staff, the Foundation Board, the Governing Board, NCHC administration and the NCHC staff. The Foundation is committed to fostering a strong partnership by:

• Building trusted relationships with staff to understand what is important to care providers.
• Demonstrating the value of philanthropy as it impacts the ability to provide care.
• Empowering all NCHC staff and volunteers to see how they can impact philanthropy through their daily work.
• Providing transparency on the return on investment in philanthropy.
• Managing and coordinating all aspects of fundraising within the organization.
• Maintaining an active liaison relationship with the NCHC Governing Board.
• Maintaining a positive working relationship with the CEO of NCHC.
• Providing NCHC Foundation board members with the support and training necessary to be successful in their roles.

Key Roles of the Board

• Set the strategic direction for the Foundation by creating a strategic plan.
• Ensure there is a fund development plan, monitor its progress and evaluate outcomes.
• Recruit and orient new board members; assess board performance.
• Enhance the public standing of North Country Healthcare and the Foundation by being advocates in the community.
• Create fundraising and donor recognition policies.
• Ensure fundraising methods adhere to ethical standards.
• Participate in fundraising.

Individual Foundation Board Member Participation in Fundraising

• Commit yourself to the organization’s mission.
• Make a contribution that is personally significant.
• Identify, evaluate, and cultivate prospects.
• Make introductions to prospects.
• Organize and attend special events.
• Attend face-to-face solicitations.
• Write or sign appeal letters.
• Thank donors.

Board members are also expected to:

• Follow the NCHC Foundation’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions.
• Sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it during the year if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings.
• Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of the Foundation and North Country HealthCare.
